![]() ![]() They were made, I believe, in 1924 or 1925 and maybe both years. Not to confuse the issue but the Finnish Army did contract to purchase 7.65mm Lugers that fall within the Alphabet series. It was completely reliable and very accurate. 308" bullets and Winchester 730 powder (no longer available). 30 caliber cartridges through it, I bought dies and reloaded the Norma cases using 100 grain Speer "Plinker". Other than the lug being partly ground down, it was in 99% condition. I found it in a Seattle pawn shop in 1966 and paid $70 for it. The first Luger I personally purchased was an Alphabet in the "n" block. They were mostly made for export and are considered to be a commercial model with the exception of the Finn contract mentioned below. Before Jan Still, after much study, designated your model Luger as an "Alphabet" commercial Luger, they were previously known as a Model 1923 I believe. There is a Model 1920 but yours isn't one. Think of a police cruiser that's souped up for police use vs the same model without the upgrades sold to a civilian. The commercial 7.65mm Lugers are not military pistols by virtue of their caliber. Update Thanks for the title change, Mike.Ĭlick to expand.P-08 means "Pistole, Model of 1908" which is a military designation for a 9mm pistol purchased for military use only. By the way, I am a neophyte when it comes to firearms. ![]() There is no apparent way to attach a stock. The front sight does not have that little hook in the back part of it. Oh yes, it has dark wooden checkered grips and fixed sights. I am enthused because it is a pre war Luger P08 that is in excellent condition with 95% condition of finish. ![]() The previous owner told me 1908, but I doubt this. Any ideas to help me narrow the range of possible dates that is the year of manufacture? I have already narrowed it down to at or before 1934. The serial number is 1368 with a scripted "k". ![]() I think this is part of what is called the toggle. It appears to be the number "82" that was scratched on the side of the lever that pivots when the gun is cocked. "DWM", Crown over "N", Letter suffixed serial number, Gesichert under saftey toggle, and no date stamp. I have purchased this Luger a few months ago. ![]()
